Q.   What do scientific studies say about the safety of treated timber?

A.   Scientific research has shown that:

  1. Treated timber lasts longer than alternative products, and takes less energy to produce with less polluting emissions than most other building materials.
  2. Treated timber conserves a renewable natural resource.
  3. During service the preservatives in treated timber do not significantly leach into the ground or waterways.
  4. Proper handling and use of treated timber poses no health risks to  human, animal, and marine life.
  5. Treated timber has been extensively tested and proved to be more reliable and durable than alternative products.
